Tyler Wilson earns A-10 Pitcher of the Week

(Per gorhody.com) KINGSTON, R.I - Rhode Island sophomore Tyler Wilson has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The honor is his first of the season and third of his career.

Wilson was dominant on the mound for Rhode Island Saturday, allowing only one (unearned) run over seven innings and leading the Rams to their first victory of the season - a 2-1 win over Maryland. He gave up just four hits, matched his career high with 11 strikeouts, and walked none while protecting the Rams' one-run lead.

The Palmer, Mass. native currently leads the Atlantic 10 and ranks 12th nationally with 19 strikeouts so far this season - 8 against 14th-ranked Florida State and 11 against Maryland, which D1Baseball.com identified as the preseason favorite in the Big Ten conference.

Overall, the Atlantic 10 weekly award is the sixth of Wilson's career. In addition to earning two A-10 Pitcher of the Week awards in 2015, he also was a three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week.
